KANSAS: On May 23, racing greyhound Black Spuds suffered a multiple fracture of a front leg while racing at the Wichita track and was euthanized by the track veterinarian at the request of the dog's owner, according to Tracy Diel, executive director of the state racing commission.

VERMONT: The pending sale of the defunct Green Mountain Greyhound Track in Pownal to developer Jack Appleman for a mixed-use development was delayed after railroad right-of-way issues surfaced in mid-July. Guilford Railroad, a private company, owns the operational railroad track and its crossings, one of which leads into the entrance of the 144-acre track site. Town, county and state officials are working with Appelman and track owner John Tietgens to find a solution. Tietgens bought the track at auction in 1993 for $250,000. Green Mountain operated as a dog trackfrom 1997 to 1992.Greyhound racing was outlawed in Vermont in 1995.
